In Western Australia, the Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation (RNO) is located about 150km from the regional centre of Esperance, on the doorstep of world-heritage listed Fitzgerald River National Park.

Employees at RNO have the option of living locally in picturesque Hopetoun, or in the regional centres of Esperance and Albany.

Australia FIFO & DIDO Lifestyle

Life On-Site

Whether you decide to take our drive-in, drive-out (DIDO) or fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) employment option, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds: live at home during your shift break and stay in our on-site accommodation whilst you work.

Our RNO village is nestled within the peaceful bushland of Ravensthorpe, filled with diverse flora and fauna unique to the region.  Accommodation is comfortable, with individual air-conditioning and ensuite facilities in each room.

To ensure health and wellness is prioritised on-site there are two gyms – one for cardio and one dedicated to weight training – plus shared entertainment areas including outdoor BBQ facilities, indoor pool and ping-pong tables, tennis and basketball courts, a cricket pitch and a running circuit. If you are unsure of what to do at our RNO Village, you can always contact our on-site wellness coordinator who can share our weekly exercise class schedule and the many wellness activities offered at the Village.

Rosters

We understand that it’s just as important to prioritise your family life as well as your career which is why we are focused on being as family-friendly as possible. The majority of our FIFO and DIDO rosters are 8:6, with others being 5:2 depending on the role.

Getting Here

By Road
RNO is approximately a 30-minute drive from Hopetoun. Buses run daily in the morning and afternoon between Hopetoun and RNO, or alternatively, you can drive to site.

By Air
RNO runs flights on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (flight time is one hour). from Perth Airport to Ravensthorpe Airport.
Rex (Regional Express) operates daily flights between Perth and Esperance (flight time 1 hour 40 minutes) and between Perth and Albany (flight time 1 hour 10 minutes).  For more information see the Rex website.

Work and Weekends

We understand that it’s just as important to prioritise your family life as well as your career. The majority of our residential roles have a 5:2/4:3 roster enabling you to be home on the weekends to enjoy time with friends and family. However, some residential employees also remain on an 8:6 roster depending on their role within our operation.

Travel

Living in Hopetoun provides the best of both worlds: living on WA’s beautiful south coast while remaining conveniently connected by frequent, discounted regional chartered flights to Perth.

In collaboration with Allkem Mt Cattlin and MACA, flights have been consolidated between Ravensthorpe and Perth, with larger jet aircraft introduced to accommodate the number of passengers. Where capacity allows, seats are made available via expression of interest to the local community at the discounted rates below.

Local Lifestyle

Western Australia’s southern coastline is blessed with a temperate climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. With the region reaching average summer temperatures in the mid-20 degrees and short spells of hotter temperatures in Hopetoun.

The rugged coastline boasts countless remote beaches that sit on the doorstep of the world-heritage listed Fitzgerald River National Park. With over 2,500 varieties of wildflower species, ancient mountain ranges, rocky hills, rugged river valleys, estuaries and inlets the area provides a wealth of natural beauty to be explored.

Employees and their families who live in the small community enjoy a range of outdoor activities with access to hiking, fishing, boating, surfing and camping. The town hosts plenty of social activities from beach volleyball to family events such as the annual fishing competition in Hopetoun.
