While governments have the primary duty for protecting human rights, we recognize that we must respect human rights within our sphere of influence.
We also recognize that we have an important role to play in promoting the enjoyment of human rights among our stakeholders. Therefore, respect for human rights is fundamental to our values and how we conduct our business activities.
This commitment is embedded in our corporate Human Rights Policy as well as our operational management processes. Our approach is guided by the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR) which set out rules for engagement with the police that provide external security and response assistance, and provide guidelines on contractual requirements, the use of force and human rights training.
All security personnel and security service providers are required to abide by the VPSHR code of conduct. Security service providers are required to provide a quarterly certificate declaring that they inducted and trained all new employees on these principles and that they monitor the adherence of their employees to these principles.
