We work responsibly to provide metals that build the modern world.
We recognize the need for mining to responsibly deliver the critical metals essential for the world, but we can’t do that unless we have a positive impact locally and on the broader global environment.
First Quantum believes in the value that mining can bring, not only for our people, investors and host governments but also for the communities we are part of and for the environment in which we operate. Our approach to responsible mining is guided by core values developed in the Company’s formative years and the practical requirement to deliver results on the ground. Being honest with ourselves and remaining true to our values is key to achieving the best results. We take the right course of action because it is the right thing to do, and encourage each of our employees to take responsibility for their own actions.

Environmentally sensitive
We recognize that we share natural resources such as clean air, water and energy. As such, we have a core commitment to seek and manage these resources responsibly. That means endeavouring to optimize energy consumption through a continued prioritization of innovation, improving efficiencies and reducing wastage.
We recognize our responsibility towards biodiversity both within our direct areas of influence and the broader environment and continually explore opportunities to ‘give back’ to the habitat impacted by our operations.
Socially responsible
Our relationships are based on transparency, trust and respect, recognizing that our activities affect or could affect our stakeholders, local communities, their cultures, traditional and current uses of land and resources. The welfare of our people and the communities in which we operate is important for building lasting relationships. We seek to ensure that the positive economic impacts of mining are realized and to assist in improving the quality of life for those people and communities impacted by our activities.
Committed to colleagues
Safe production is our top priority. We believe that there is no job that cannot be done safely. That means empowering and supporting our colleagues through practical systems and training, including our THINK! campaign.
Our people are vitally important to our ongoing success and to our practical, outcomes-driven and innovative culture. Developing our people, empowering and mentoring those around us, has made us what we are today. We want our personnel to grow with us and help drive our future growth.

Governed openly and robustly
Our culture expects responsibility and accountability in how we operate. Our dynamic organization structure means that our people are empowered to challenge and continually strive to do better. Established governance structures are in place to support this, from site management through to executive and Board oversight. We have developed a wide range of risk management methodologies and deploy resources to understand, manage and mitigate risk throughout the Company’s operations. This is subject to regular and ongoing oversight and monitoring by our executive management and the First Quantum Board.
Sustainable, driven by innovation
Innovation is key to our approach to sustainability. Continued innovation has an important role to play as we seek to deliver metals in the most sustainable and cost-effective manner. As a responsible miner, this means improving how we use energy and other resources within our business. Appropriate energy sources are sourced, and technology leveraged, to reduce the resources that we require. We are focused on delivering tangible projects from mine to mill that will deliver measurable changes in performance.
