Accessible water in Zambia

From speaking to local community leaders, it is clear that one of the best ways we can help local communities in Zambia is through the creation of better water infrastructure for their communities. We’ve worked on a number of projects that will help to ensure the communities in which we work have improved access to water.

Students, patients and people of Kabwela
We initiated the sinking and development of five boreholes, outfitting two with solar submersible pumps and two with 10,000-litre PVC water tanks. These installations serve three kiosks: Kabwela School, Kabwela Clinic, and neighboring villages. Additionally, three boreholes – featuring India Mark II pumps – have been created to supply water to Kansanshi School, Nkonde, and Solochi communities in Kabwela. Our goal is to help pupils, patients and all Kabwela residents obtain sustainable access to clean water.

Solar-powered facilities for Kijilamatambo Primary School
Kansanshi, in collaboration with Mader Group of Companies from Australia, constructed an ablution block and a solar water system for Kijilamatambo Primary School. These toilets are waterborne, have running water, and are solar-powered.

Water for the wider community
In addition to those projects, we have installed 179 taps and hand pumps across our surrounding communities in Zambia. These ensure that clean water is available to the people who we come into contact with. Additionally, we have trained 25 communities on water resource management, supporting them to ensure that the water they have is put to best use and managed properly to get them through hard times.

These programs have all been created in partnership with the local community, local partners and local governments to ensure that we are building the infrastructure that is truly needed on the ground.
