Sustainable farming

Sustainable farming is a fantastic way for farmers in our local communities to increase their yields and also protect the environments in which they operate. Through training and awareness campaigns, in association with local leaders and governments, we encourage the communities in which we work to change their farming techniques, helping the local community to create a better future for itself and its surrounding environment. Below we’ve included a sample of some of the projects we’ve supported in past years.

Increasing yields in Zambia
Since 2010 we’ve helped over 36,000 people to increase their farming yields using sustainable farming techniques. The program simultaneously helps our local communities to grow more and protects the local environment.

Coffee growers in Panama
In Panama, agroforestry was introduced as part of a reforestation commitment, aiming to minimize tree clearance while still providing a livelihood. Local farmers were supported in the establishment of shade-adapted crops like coffee, cocoa and achiote. This initiative supports long-term reforestation commitments and benefits local farmers economically while enhancing ecological sustainability.

Beekeepers in turkey
The Beekeeping Development Project was developed in collaboration with Madenli Municipality and aims to help beekeepers improve their skills and increase their income. The training has resulted in a reduction in colony losses, more honey produced, the establishment of a production workshop and improved marketing and sales channels.

Preventing slash-and-burn in Zambia
In collaboration with the local government, we’ve encouraged more conservation farming techniques to move away from slash-and-burn, protecting the long-term quality of the soil and forests, as well as the lungs of the people in the surrounding area.

Local enterprises in Panama
We’ve supported seven local agriculture enterprises in Panama. Cobre Panamá provided support to seven local enterprises, benefiting over 79 families engaged in marketing agricultural products, by offering them technical assistance to enhance their production and refine marketing strategies.
