Our sustainability program spans environmental and social projects as we seek to deliver benefits to the people and the communities where we operate.
We can’t succeed without our community
Sustainability and social responsibility are an intrinsic part of what we do.
We know that we have a responsibility to the people, communities and environment where we work. We take a collaborative approach, working with local and traditional leaders as well as government, and alongside communities to deliver projects that are most needed.
Our sustainable development strategy is built around four key pillars:

Nuanced, partnership approach
We don’t use a cookie cutter approach to interacting with communities. Our approach takes on the nuance of the areas in which we work. We listen to the people who understand the programs that will have the biggest impact on our communities, and the ones in which our expertise will add the most value to these projects.
Supporting our environment
We believe in building the future without compromising the world we live in today. That’s why we actively support and implement environmental initiatives focused on biodiversity, climate change, water conservation, and waste recycling.
Working in our community
We care about the people where we work and want to share the value our operations create widely. Our projects focus on building capacity with our local communities, particularly through infrastructure, livelihood, education and health projects.
Our sustainability programs seek to ensure broad participation in the the value our mines create with the people and the communities where we’re based.
Looking after our people
When people join First Quantum, we want them to stay. We help our colleagues grow their careers and stay safe and healthy at work. When people start at First Quantum, they begin a career, they don’t start a job.
Doing the right thing
Ethics are integral to the way we work. We’ve proven it in the past as we’ve turned down and lost opportunities that didn’t match with our moral code. We believe in doing the right thing as we grow our business the right way.
Ensuring safe working practices
We seek to create a safe working environment without a reliance on red tape. We respect our colleagues and give them the tools they need to ensure that everyone gets home safely.
