Water
Limiting water consumption is a core commitment across our operations.
Reducing water withdrawal
Large quantities of water are essential for almost all mining and mineral processing activities.
Our use of water resources and how much we consume and reuse are key areas of focus at all of our operations.
We have a core commitment to minimize water withdrawal and discharge by adopting new technologies, continually improving efficiencies and on-site water reuse.
Large quantities of water are essential for almost all mining and mineral processing activities. We report and measure our water usage under the International Council on Mining and Metals (“ICMM”) Water Reporting Good Practice Guide, 2nd Edition.
Ongoing initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce withdrawal and discharge, and increase on site water reuse through specific projects are an area of focus for our operations.

Ensuring clean waterways
The Defenders of Water Resources in Panama is a Participatory Monitoring group. Community volunteers, who represent the local communities surrounding Cobre Panamá, test water quality and work with experts to protect local waterways.

“Our monitoring program creates unity between the company and communities, working together to protect and preserve natural rivers.”
Angel María Mendoza,
A member of DCA (Community Defenders of the Environment)

“Establishing systems for installation and maintenance is fundamental when helping communities improve water quality and making it safe for consumption.”
Eulice Del Rosario,
Community Infrastructure Coordinator, Cobre Panama
We care for the places where we work
As well as the great work that we do on water systems, we also aim to manage and minimize our impact to climate change and biodiversity, as well as taking care to correctly treat and dispose of our waste.

We care for the people where we work
We work hard to improve the lives of the people in the communities where we work. Our efforts are focused on four key areas; health, infrastructure, livelihoods and education. We work with local leaders and governments to find the projects where our expertise and funding will have the biggest impact, so that we are providing the help that is needed.
