Our approach to responsible mining is guided by core values developed in the Company’s formative years and the practical requirement to deliver results on the ground. We recognize that being honest with ourselves and remaining true to our values is key to achieving the best results. We take the right course of action because it is the right thing to do, and we encourage each of our employees to take responsibility for their own actions.
We partner with governments, host communities and stakeholders to uncover where our expertise and funding will make the biggest difference, and then collaborate to make that happen.

Biodiverse countries
We understand our responsibility to biodiversity both within our direct area of influence and in the broader context. We look for ways to reduce, recycle, and reuse materials and are committed to safe, long-term storage of waste.
Respect and recognition
Where indigenous communities are present and directly impacted by our activities, we seek Free, Prior and Informed Consent to respect their standing as distinct, self-determining peoples with collective rights.
Responsible consumption
We recognize that we share natural resources such as air, water and energy and have a core commitment to consume and manage these resources responsibly.

Innovation is a key part of our approach to sustainability. We seek to deliver metals in the most sustainable and cost-effective manner possible. This means improving our energy uses and minimizing resource intake, leveraging new technologies that will help us to reach our goals.

Robust governance
Our dynamic organization structure means that our people are empowered to challenge and find new ways to improve, supported by our governance structures from site management through to executive and Board oversight. We have developed a wide range of risk management methodologies and deploy resources to understand, manage and mitigate risk throughout the Company’s operations. This is subject to regular and ongoing oversight and monitoring by our executive management and the First Quantum Board.
