Livelihoods
We help our communities enhance their livelihoods through a series of training and support programs.
Training and support for local communities
We collaborate with our host communities and governments to find new ways to advance their livelihoods in a sustainable way that will outlast the life of our mine, with continuous engagement informing how we adapt and improve our approach. This means the programs we deliver matter to local people and give them the help they want.

Sustainable farming
Whether it’s growing coffee under the canopy in Panama or transitioning from slash-and-burn farming in Zambia, we’re working with community farmers to increase their crop yield whilst protecting their environment.

Funding growth with scrap
Our work to sell scrap and use the proceeds to help local businesses has generated US$255,000 of funding, helping these businesses to grow and support the local community.

“Thanks to FQM support to local agriculture, I am growing vegetables and making a living from it.”

“Before, around here, we had never had the opportunity to work. When the coffee planting plan was born, that motivated me.”
Paula García

“Thanks to FQM, I’ve discovered sustainable farming methods – my costs are lower, my profits are higher, and I now understand the real value of the crops I grow.”

We focus on the projects that matter most in our community
Livelihoods is one of our four key pillars for social sustainability projects, unearthed through conversations with local leaders who know what matters most to the communities where we operate.

Mining doesn’t have to cost the Earth
We care for the places where we work because it matters to us, to our colleagues and the communities in which we work. Our environmental projects include water quality assurance, biodiversity protection, reforestation and climate change initiatives.
